[Click for full picture]When I think of the Chrono series, I see three youths travelling through time to save the world in a story so complex even Einstein wouldn't get it. Hoever, if you thought Chrono Trigger had a complex plot, then you ain't seen nothing yet. Chrono Cross has the largest, most mind-boggling storyline of any game on the face of the Earth. I still don't get half of it.

The game starts with you playing as Serge in Fort Dragonia, which of course is a dream... or is it a prophecy? When you wake up your overly bossy girlfriend orders you to find lizard skin for her jewelry. When you accept the game unfolds across time and space leading to another dimension, a dimension between dimensions, and the dimension at the end of time. Confusing enough yet? Oh it will be.

The graphics of Chrono Cross are glorious. They are very advanced for the limits of the Playstation and perfectly adapt to each unique location of the game. The characters are wonderful to the eye and the FMV cinemas are beautiful, like watching the Final Fantasy Movie. Expect nothing less than perfection from Square.

Each piece fits its intention perfectly, setting the pace of action, drama, sadness, or triumph. I loved the music so much I almost bought the CD, but it cost like $30, so screw to that.

Overall, Chrono Cross proves to be one of the best RPGs on the Playstation, if you can rack your brain to understand it. The story is happy and sad, and consuming at all times. You might even cry at certain points, while laugh uncontrollably at another. The game features so many hidden features and branch points that it will take at least four play-throughs to see it all. Not only that, the final boss provides an interesting challenge, so make sure to achieve it. Enjoy this game, because it truly is a rare animal.
